Kingsley School serves students in kindergarten through fifth grade. Originally built in
1965, Kingsley closed in 1979 during the era of declining student enrollments. In 1991, Kingsley reopened and has since been home to hundreds of terrific students, parents, volunteers, and staff each year. The faculty has a justified reputation as a "can-do" kind of
staff tackling important educational issues and implementing innovative practices. Recent
examples have included the Kingsley Literacy Project, an intensive three-year plan
addressing reading and writing, and creative implementation of PBIS (Positive Behavioral

Dr. Bessie Rhodes Magnet School was founded in 1995 as Timber Ridge Magnet School. Our school’s name was changed to honor our first principal, Dr. Bessie Rhodes. We are a kindergarten through eighth grade school, drawing students from the entire District 65 attendance area. One reason magnet schools have been established is to help achieve optimal classroom size throughout the district. Rhodes provides a maximum of two classes per grade, a total of 18 homerooms. Kindergarten through fifth grade classes are self-contained, with most instruction provided by the homeroom teacher. The subjects of Fine Arts, Computer, Library, and Physical Education are taught by additional faculty, referred to as “Specials.” The upper-grade students (sixth through eighth) move among the classrooms for math instruction and other subjects. In addition to the Specials previously listed, the upper- grade students are instructed in an Art Tech Program twice per week focusing on art through technology.
